Sustainable and Vegan New Years Ideas

Blog Sustainable and Vegan New Years Ideas

The last day of the year is always a special one, no matter if you like to celebrate it big, just with your family or not at all. So, how do you make your New Years Traditions sustainable and vegan?

My family always had their very own New Year's traditions that included a cheese fondue, followed by a chocolate fondue and so-called table fireworks, something similar to a Christmas cracker out of which fun little things pop out.

This New Year’s celebration of 2020 those traditions will be transformed into more eco-friendly solutions. There couldn't be a better way to end the year.

Sustainable and Vegan New Years Ideas:

2. Vegan Cheese Fondue

Fondues are a fun and engaging activity far beyond their food aspect. This creamy and thick vegan cheese fondue will be your next yearly tradition. It's easy to prepare and doesn't require too many ingredients, yet it makes you want to have fondues much more often.

Ingredients for 3-4 people or two people if you don't mind to have some leftover sauce for the next day:

  • 1 cup raw or soaked cashews
  • ¼ cup vegan cream cheese
  • ½ cooked sweet potato
  • 1 small garlic clove
  • ½ cup water
  • 2 tbsp + 2 tsp nutritional yeast
  • 1 ½ tsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tbsp miso
  • 1 ½ tsp lemon juice (We prefer to use whole lemon because of its nutrients, yet without the rind.)

Blend everything in the mixer. If your mixer isn't very powerful, you want to soak your cashews beforehand overnight.

What to dip into your fondue? Here are some ideas:

  • Tofu
  • Potato Dumplings / Potatoes
  • Mushrooms
  • Carrots
  • Brussel Sprouts
  • Apples

 3. Vegan Chocolate Fondue

Chocolate Fondue is probably one of the most loved desserts and it doesn't have to be difficult to make. When I was looking for vegan chocolate fondue, I found a lot of options that were made with vegan non-dairy chocolate bars, yet, I didn't only want a vegan chocolate fondue but also a healthy one. So I came up with this alternative that became the best chocolate fondue I have ever had.

Ingredients for two people:

  • 6 tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa
  • 4-5 tablespoons of date sugar depending on how sweet you like it
  • 5 big spoons of peanut butter

Mix all ingredients while slowly adding water as needed to get the right consistency (Not too liquid and not too solid.)

What to dip into your fondue? Here are some ideas:

  • Strawberries
  • Grapes
  • Pineapples
  • Air-popped popcorn
